Calvin Harris' "Blame" feat. John Newman - Single Review

Scottish DJ Calvin Harris is on top of the world right now, recently surpassing over one billion streams on Spotify, thanks to his tracks including "Sweet Nothing" and "Summer", but the artist does not seem to be slowing himself down as his new release, "Blame" featuring vocal John Newman, is another infectious jam that does deviate too far from his already successful formula.

Though it does not hit as hard as most of his previous releases, the new single is carried to new heights for the producer by the powerful, unique vocals of Newman and the inescapable hook that is ready to dominate radio airwaves and dance floors. Though an uptempo club song, the single seems to be showing a slightly different, more mature, approach to Harris' music capabilities.

"Blame" is the second single taken off Harris' upcoming fourth album. As Newman tackles verses of waking up next to a strange woman who isn't his lover, Harris keeps the somber track, supposedly inspired by ex-girlfriend Rita Ora, from actually sounding too depressing with pulsating beats and a quick progression. "I had no choice in this, I was a friend she missed, she needed me to talk," the "Love Me Again" soulfully sings on the future smash. In a song where genres clash beautifully, Harris has found the right amount of story-telling and background production.

For the accompanying music video, released just today, the two artists are shown living it up in a lavish pad and an underground club scene with gorgeous, semi-naked women are at their beckon call. While it may not make any sense, the sophisticated sex appeal is definitely on point. "Blame" is a track that will make you want to get up on your feet, it sounds to be the theme for a wild night, the video better paints that crazy picture. Harris and Newman make for a dominating pairing, the collaboration is just heating up!
