Nelson Mandela's daughter Zindzi tested positive for COVID-19 on the day she died.

Zindzi Mandela tested positive for COVID-19 on the same day she was pronounced dead, her son revealed.

Speaking with South Africa’s public broadcaster, SABC, Zondwa, Zindzi's son said:  "My mother did in fact test positive for Covid-19 on the day of her passing.

"Although, this doesn't, therefore, mean that she died of COVID-related complications, but simply that she tested positive for it.

He further stated, "Simply by the virtue that there was a positive test, we are therefore obligated to function and work within the framework of the existing regulation related to such cases."

Zindzi died in a hospital in Johannesburg in the early hours of Monday, July 13. News of Zindzi's death has been confirmed by the Nelson Mandela Foundation.

Zindzi Mandela's son, Bambatha also shared a photo of his mother with the caption in swahili that translated to "Rest in Peace".

The daughter of former President Nelson Mandela and Winnie Madikizela-Mandela served as South Africa's ambassador to Denmark.
