LIFE AND WHAT I'M READING

This last week or so has been somewhat of a doozy. It began 10 days ago when I went in to have the first half of a deep cleaning at the dentist. My periodontal health had declined during the last year due to Covid.

It wasn't the worst thing I have ever had done, but it was later that night that the problem began. Apparently the cleaning had injured my trigeminal nerve, and I experienced the worst pain I have ever had in my life, when I touched a spot on my face. I continued to have several episodes over the next few days and was considering knocking myself out with a hammer.

That same day I had to take my daughter to be admitted to the hospital. If you are a reader of my blog you know that she has a primary immune disease and basically has been homebound for the last year. Apparently she had gotten a fungus infection in her lung and needed to be in hospital for the treatment.

They took every precaution to keep her from contracting Covid, but as I watched them wheel her away I felt helpless and terrified.

The next five days were pretty much of a nightmare as I dealt with my pain, the worry for Katy, and the fact that her insurance company was refusing to pay the $16,000 for the medication she has to take for the next three months.

Thank goodness for her team at Emory who made countless phone calls and persuaded the drug company to provide the life saving medication to her for free.

I felt like dancing

Tuesday was everything in reverse. I went to the dentist to have the second half of my treatment, which made my pain worse. It was triggered by brushing my teeth and blowing my nose. I don't even want to think of the hundreds of dollars I had to pay, even with dental insurance, to be put in pain.

I have now resolved to use every dental related item known to womankind to insure I never have to go through that ordeal again.

Some dental supplies I have purchased are some nifty interdental brushes (HERE), more dental floss (HERE), which is overflowing my cabinet, and a new water flosser (HERE). I now spend most of my time hovering over the bathroom sink.

Fortunately my pain seems to be lessening and I am hoping that it is just temporary.

After the dentist I picked Katy up from the hospital and took her home, where she is once again safe from Covid, if not fungal infections.

Now on to what I am reading. I love British mysteries and have read all of the Detective Inspector Slider mysteries by Cynthia Harrod Eagles.

Did the victim's dumped girlfriend, with blood on her hands, kill him? Is the case as clear cut as it seems? Well of course not. What would be the fun in that?

If you are a fan of British mysteries and have never read this series, you can find it (HERE). She also writes other great books, which you might want to look into.

If you are already a reader of her books you definitely will want to read this latest book "Cruel as The Grave" (HERE)

I am looking forward to a quiet weekend of reading, tending to my houseplants, and welcoming the official start of spring.
